03-02-2026 in Heritage

In 2026, the museum in Saint-Martin-de-Belleville is reinventing itself with a new immersive experience combining a relief map, videos and interactive projections, inviting visitors to explore the Vallée des Belleville and its history.

An immersive relief map

The museum is unveiling a spectacular new installation: a two-metre-long relief map representing the Vallée des Belleville. Combined with videos and interactive projections, it immerses visitors in the heart of the area and its evolution.

The installation unfolds through four scenarios: the territory, the cycle of the seasons, human settlement and the history of the ski area. Using an intuitive interface, visitors can control the projections in French or English and follow a narrative that is both educational and engaging.

From the glacial period to the present day, from landscapes to the way people have shaped them, the valley is revealed from a fresh perspective.

An evolving installation

Installed on the museum mezzanine, this relief map has been designed as an evolving tool, allowing the themes explored to be expanded and enriched over time.

This project is part of a wider programme of digital installations. The cauldron scenography, dedicated to the production of Beaufort cheese, has been redesigned with projections and a LED faux fireplace. The cowshed also features a new projection on milking, bringing the existing fresco to life.

150 years of local history

Housed in a former farmhouse in the heart of the village, the museum in Saint-Martin-de-Belleville traces nearly 150 years of history in the Vallée des Belleville. Spread over several levels, the thematic route immerses visitors in everyday life in the past.

From harsh winters and summers spent on agricultural work to the social and economic changes of the 20th century, the visit highlights the evolution of traditional agropastoral life through to the rise of tourism and the creation of the ski resorts of Les Menuires and Val Thorens in the 1960s and 1970s, followed by Saint-Martin-de-Belleville.

A lively year-round visit

Open all year round, the museum in Saint-Martin-de-Belleville offers a lively and educational experience, ideal for understanding how this mountain area has been shaped over time to become a popular destination for skiers and holidaymakers.
