Parc national de La Vanoise

Located at the gateway to Parc national de la Vanoise, the village of Saint-Martin-de-Belleville offers direct access to one of the most beautiful protected natural areas in the French Alps. It was France's very first national park, created in 1963.

Exceptional natural heritage

With 53,000 hectares of protected territory and 145 peaks topping 3,000 metres, Parc national de la Vanoise offers an exceptional setting for hiking, wildlife watching and discovering unspoilt landscapes. There are also around sixty glaciers, testimony to an impressive geological heritage.

The centre of the park is strictly protected, allowing the many species that have made it their home to live in peace. The Alpine ibex, icon of the park, lives alongside marmots, chamois, golden eagles and bearded vultures.

Remarkable flora and fauna

Vanoise is home to exceptional biodiversity, with more than 1,200 recorded plant species, some of which are rare and endemic. There are also more than 180 species of birds, as well as a large population of alpine mammals.

Hikes and access from the village

A number of paths lead from the village of Saint-Martin to the park's natural areas. The accessible routes allow you to discover mountain pastures, high-altitude forests and panoramic ridges. You can choose between day trips and longer routes, with several refuges within walking distance of the valley.

Esprit Parc National certification

Created by France's national parks, the Esprit Parc National certification recognises local initiatives working to preserve natural and cultural heritage.

In Vallée des Belleville, a number of activities, refuges, restaurants and products from sustainable farming (honey, dairy products) have been awarded this label, a sign of strong commitment to respectful and authentic tourism.
